VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY
Today my husband and I will be attending a get-together
at our local community center
where I spend many hours during the winter months.
The event is to honor all those who have kept the activities
running smoothly
over the winter season.
Since moving to the area a few years ago I thought it would be easier to get to know my neighbors by joining this group. Now I see them (the northerners who head south to avoid the cold winters) as extended family. We are the youngest couple in the group and each spring I have wondered which of the "Snowbirds " will make it back to their winter homes here in sunny Florida come next fall.
Each winter season I have developed a friendship with someone whom I had only known from a distance. The stories they have to tell about their younger years cause me to wish I'd know them sooner. Some have become Mentors and some seem to be long lost family members whom I'm just getting to know.
How different would my life have been with some of them as part of it?
Yet the past is just that..
it has passed and today is what counts!
Live in the Now, Be present and really listen
to someone who is there with you
Look in their eyes while they are talking,
touch their arm in a gesture of compassion when they finish,
end the conversation with a hug
let your family and friends KNOW how much
you enjoy being around them
make sure they walk away knowing they can count on you
for understanding, compassion, loyalty, and a
helping hand any time
LIVE IN THE NOW, LOVE FOR ETERNITY
LIVE YOUR LIFE "IN SERVICE TO OTHERS"
OPEN YOUR HEART TO SOMEONE YOU ONLY KNOW
FROM A DISTANCE
ENJOY!!!!
I Hope you'll have a wonderful weekend, Much Love Kimmie
